Simon isn't prideful about everything, but when it comes to more intellectual pursuits, he's furiously stubborn. He'd die of shame before he allowed anyone to think he wasn't capable of grasping the artistic or poetic nuances of something, and thus, when Lark had suggested coded floral messages as a means of communication, Simon wouldn't have dreamed of suggesting otherwise. On its own merits, it is a great idea. Its only drawback, really, is that Simon doesn't know what the hell any given bouquet is supposed to mean, even with the aid of several books on the matter and an incredibly thorough cheat sheet.
He's relieved to see a delicate, luminescent stem of aethril in the midst of the other flora this time, though. If it means what he thinks it means--and it's the one thing whose interpretation isn't hard to remember, straightforward as it is--he'll have no difficulty at all in extricating himself from Light's Hope to travel to Azsuna. He won't even have to fudge some barely-truthful explanation; he does have legitimate business there. Unfortunately, it's a large place, and he doesn't have the faintest idea where in Azsuna his friend wants to meet him, or why...
He swallows his pride just enough to seek Vizzik's impatient help with the matter, but it only leaves him more confused.
"Come on, buddy," Viz tells him, with a dramatic roll of his eyes. "It couldn't be simpler. He's telling you not to sic the bruisers on him, because he'll pony up the money without a fight if you just wait until Tuesday. You could've figured that out on your own, I know you could."
In the end, Simon decides to take the included crest of Farondis literally, and situates himself outside the little ruined gazebo where Farondis and his entourage hold court. They don't seem to mind, and he can make small talk with the prince as he waits.
